US Lacrosse has awarded an equipment grant to the Charleston YMCA. Through this grant the YMCA was awarded equipment for 20 boys and 20 girls. This gift is worth well over $6,000. The equipment will be used to establish a Charleston area youth Lacrosse league sponsored by the YMCA.
On Sunday, March 19th the YMCA will be holding a coaches /referee clinic for parents interested in participating in the development of the new lacrosse program. The clinic will cover the basic rules of the game and basic game skills (catching, throwing, scooping, and cradling).
Phil Wright and John Dulin are planning a trip to Charlottesville on Saturday, March 4th to watch UVA play Syracuse . We know not many parents and boys in this area have seen a game and this is a chance to watch two great collegiate teams. The game starts at 3:00 p.m. If you are interested in going ( or would like to car pool with some other folks) please contact Phil -Wright at 347-8564.
The Friday, March 10 scrimmage between University High and Morgantown High scheduled at Laidley Field in Charleston will probably be changed to Saturday Mar. 11 following the University of Charleston track meet. These two teams represent high school programs in northern West Virginia.
On Saturday, March 25th, or Sunday March 26th the YMCA will be holding a players clinic for boys and girls . The clinic will introduce basic rules and game skills to the kids. It goes without saying that the number of teams will be based upon the number of kids who would like to play. Be sure to sign up at the YMCA if you are interested. Confirmation of the exact date and time will be provided at a later date.
John Dulin needs to know how many boys would be interested in attending a Lacrosse Camp at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia , from June 25th to the 28th. The camp is for boys 8 to 18 and costs $465 . If you need more info go to “www.allaboutlax.com” or call John at 925-4824.
